The Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism is responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with pituitary/thyroid/parathyroid/adrenal diseases, hypertension, diabetes, diabetic nephropathy, hyperlipidemia, and lifestyle-related diseases. Precise treatment is performed in accordance with individual patients’ conditions. In addition to drug therapy, concrete plans for nutrition and exercise therapy are made, and it is evaluated whether or not these plans should be continued at every consultation in order to provide appropriate treatment.

Consultation system/therapeutic strategies

We contribute to patients’ health and longevity by comprehensively managing multiple risk factors for cardiovascular diseases, such as hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and chronic kidney disease, in addition to endocrine diseases, which require high-level specialization, and prolonging the organ lifetime.
We are making efforts to prevent cardiovascular/metabolic disorders related to diabetes. An educational class for diabetics is held. In the Diabetes Outpatient Clinic, guidance, such as dietary guidance and exercise therapy, is given in accordance with individual patients to improve their lifestyle. Furthermore, patients can receive explanations of the condition and treatment methods by diabetes control instructors (diabetes guidance-qualified dietitians, nurses, pharmacists, and physical therapists) for the diagnosis and care of complications. Activities by members of a social gathering for diabetics, “Ito-kai”, are regularly performed.

Field of expertise

Diseases related to abnormalities in pituitary/thyroid/parathyroid/adrenal hormones and various electrolytes, disorders are treated by specialists in endocrinology.
Lifestyle is involved in the etiology of arteriosclerosis (angina pectoris/myocardial infarction/cerebral infarction/occlusive arteriosclerosis). In particular, the management of hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and chronic kidney disease is important. The Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism specializes in the long-term treatment of hypertension/diabetes/hyperlipidemia/metabolic syndrome/visceral obesity/chronic kidney disease, which are factors for the onset of arteriosclerotic lesions.

Advanced medical practice

As advanced medical practice, diagnosis and treatment are performed in accordance with genetic constitutions (G-DOC Study Investigators).

Symptoms/diseases treated in our department

Hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, metabolic syndrome, visceral obesity, and pituitary/thyroid/parathyroid/adrenal hormone-associated diseases

Primary examinations and explanations

Primarily, the conditions of patients with endocrine diseases are evaluated using special blood/urine tests. Specific hypertension, represented by cases in which surgery is possible, is diagnosed.
Evaluation based on one-day blood glucose measurement is performed. Thyroid ultrasonography is conducted.
